库克山国家公园占地700平方公里，其中40%为冰川覆盖。新西兰20多座超过3000米的山峰，除了Mt. Aspiring外全集中在此，最高峰为Mount Cook（3753m）。公园内壮丽的冰峰雪山，不逊任何世界著名景点。

同加拿大落基山和南美Patagonia一样，新西兰南岛纬度较高，treeline只有1300m，1300 -1900m随时可能下雪，只有长草tussock生长其间，再向上就是终年冰峰了。所以这里的山虽不高，但看起来很壮观。当年Sir Edmund Hillary远征喜马拉雅，成为攀登珠峰第一人之前，就是在Mount Cook一带进行登山训练。

话说新西兰的官方语言是英语和毛利语，库克山的毛利名倒是好记，叫作Aoraki。相传天父的四个儿子在海上乘独木舟航行，行至此处，南极吹来的冷风将他们冻结，于是独木舟形成南岛，四兄弟变为南阿尔卑斯山脉，而四兄弟之一的Aoraki，则化身为其中的最高峰。

1. 1. 翻越Lindis Pass，这里夏天长满金色长草，可惜阴天拍不出来。冬天白雪覆盖的景色更美，在新西兰自驾，处处是景！

2. 途中绕道冰川碧湖Lake Ohau，风雨中拍了几张照片。如果是晴天，雪山碧湖一定更出彩吧？

3. 路边有一家三文鱼养殖场，可以喂鱼看鸭子，有小朋友的家庭不要错过。养殖场整条新鲜巨大的三文鱼只要$50NZD，够一家人连吃好几天

4. State Highway 80从Twizel 到 Mt. Cook Village，60多公里公路风光无限。最初40公里沿冰川碧湖Lake Pukaki 绕行

5. 过了Lake Pukaki，前方峰峦叠秀，远处巨大的山脉和雪峰在云雾中若隐若现，我们就这样一路开进山里。

8. 公园内植被保护很好，山谷里长满漂亮的长草，12月下旬，白色雏菊和 Mount Cook Lily 绽放其间

9. 冰川流下的雪水汇成河，水流湍急。Hooker Valley Track一路沿冰川河前行，经过三个长长的吊桥。

Mueller Hut Track 单程5.2km，升高1000m，Trail Head在 White Horse Hill car park，往返约7小时，一天时间绰绰有余。

19. Past a big snow band and walked along the skyline ridge. 一路橘黄色路标很明显，但前几年还是有游客失踪，估计恶劣天气下人容易迷路。
